چکیده
Summary Megaselia scalaris (Loew) (Diptera: Phoridae) is a synanthropic fly that lives in wide range of warmer regions globally. Although it listed as quarantine pest the Eurasian Economic Union, phytosanitary protocols have not been established. The larva feeds on moist food material and cannot grow dry matter, including cured tobacco. However, adults this species detected containers containing tobacco Russian ports. In study, difference susceptibility to phosphine between developmental stages lethal effect was evaluated. Fortunately, adult which potential contaminable stage demonstrated be least tolerant. concentrations achieve probit 9 mortality (≈LC 99.9968 ) for flies were calculated 636.2 ppm at 15 °C, 565.9 20 280.1 25 °C with 6 h exposure. concentration × time products ( Ct , ppm·d), cumulative exposure fumigant, respective temperatures 159.1 ppm·d 141.5 70.0 are much lower than those recommended control insect pests leaves by CORESTA (Cooperation Centre Scientific Research Relative Tobacco). These 1800 (300 d) 16–20 800 (200 4 higher °C. results suggest standard fumigation protocol stored will adequate M. . values obtained study can further utilized development phosphine-based preshipment treatments species.

Observations on first and second-instar larvae of Megaselia scalaris (Loew) (Diptera: Phoridae).
The ultrastructure of the first and second-instar larvae of Megaselia scalaris (Loew) was studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Significant changes in morphological features were observed in the anterior and posterior spiracles, but only minimal changes in the labium and mouthhooks were seen. The ultrastructure of M. scalaris larvae not only provides chronological transformation of ...
متن کاملEuropean Phalacrotophora ( Diptera : Phoridae )
Hitherto six species of scuttle fly of the cosmopolitan genus Phalacrotophora Enderlein were known from Europe, of which only two were recorded from Britain and the Netherlands (Disney, 1991). The larvae of these two species, P. berolinensis Schmitz and P. fasciata (Fallén), are parasitoids of the pupae of Coccinellidae (ladybird beetles) (Disney, Majerus & Walpole, 1994). The larval habits oft...

Phoridae are small or minute flies easily recognized by their humpbacked appearance. The adults are fairly common in many habitats, but occur especially in decaying animal or vegetable matter. Some occur in fungi and some are internal parasitoids (Veríssimo, 1995; Andreotti et al., 2003) of various other insects. Megaselia scalaris (Loew, 1866) (Diptera: Phoridae) is found in various environmen...
متن کاملDevelopmental Variation of Indian Thermophilic Variety of Scuttle Fly Megaselia (Megaselia) scalaris (Loew, 1866) (Diptera: Phoridae) on Different Substrates
The scuttle flies (Diptera: Phoridae) are important in forensic dipterology, because of their necrophagous habit. They are amongst the first wave of insects visiting human corpses in mechanically barricaded environments; hence their immature stages are generally used for estimation of PMI. The effect of different substrates commonly used for developmental studies was studied to analyze the vari...
متن کاملFirst record of Megaselia scalaris (Loew) (Diptera: Phoridae) infesting laboratory colonies of Triatoma brasiliensis Neiva (Hemiptera: Reduviidae).
Megaselia scalaris (Loew) is a cosmopolitan and synanthropic scuttle fly, eclectic in its feeding habits and acts as detritivore, parasite, facultative parasite, and parasitoid. Here we report for the first time M. scalaris infesting laboratory colonies of Triatoma brasiliensis Neiva, the most important Chagas disease vector in semiarid areas of Brazil. M. scalaris larvae were found feeding ins...
